Fastest Growing Religious/Spiritual Movement

According to religioustolerance.org, in terms of percentage growth, nature-centered forms of spirituality are the fastest growing religious expression in the United States:

“The fastest growing religion (in terms of percentage) is Wicca — a Neopagan religion that is sometimes referred to as Witchcraft. Numbers of adherents went from 8,000 in 1990 to 134,000 in 2001. Their numbers of adherents are doubling about every 30 months. Wiccans in Australia have a very similar growth pattern, from fewer than 2,000 in 1996 to 9,000 in 2001. In Canada, Wiccans and other Neopagans showed the greatest percentage growth of any faith group. They totaled 21,080 members in 1991, an increase of 281% from 1990.”

According to the American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS), there are approximately 30,000 Druids in the United States alone. Many Druids prefer to stay “in the broom closet” for personal reasons and may not respond to such surveys. Some statisticians believe that there may be as many as 2-3 million Druids in the world.

Asatru is a Norse-based form of Paganism. According to the BBC, Today the Asatru has close to 3,000 members and is one of the fastest growing religions in Iceland.

With the growth of Pagan and nature-centered forms of spiritual practice there will be an increasing and ongoing need for qualified clergy and ministers to meet the needs of those who seek a Pagan spiritual path. Elder Grove Seminar was created to help to meet that need.

Elder Grove Seminary offers Master’s and Doctoral programs in Ministry and Divinity at a low cost. In addition to preparing you to lead a Grove or a Circle, we offer ministry degrees in areas like leadership, deep ecology, and Pagan education. A degree from Elder Grove Seminary prepares you to meet the needs and challenges of the growing Pagan community while offering a high quality education at a low cost.

Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach

Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach, which means Order of the Middle Way in Scots Gaelic. OSM is the founding Druid Order of Elder Grove Seminary. It is the “middle way” between Druid Revivalism and Druid Reconstructionism.

OSM explores shamanic paths and vision-seeking. One of our goals as an Order is to re-capture Celtic shamanism. While we draw most of our inspiration from Celtic spiritual paths, our eclecticism means that we are also open to inspiration from other sources.

Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach was founded in 1997 by former members of Emerald Coast Grove in Pensacola, Florida. The home of the Order now resides in the Seattle, Washington area.

The primary mission of the Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach and of Elder Grove Seminary is to foster the growth and development of Groves through educational programs while helping members to develop in mind, body spirit, and emotion through the Way of the Druid.

Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach is separate from but co-equal with Elder Grove Seminary. You do not have to be a member of Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach to attend Elder Grove Seminary, and you do not have to attend Elder Grove Seminary to be member of Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach.

Elder Grove Seminary is the educational branch of Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach. This online seminary offers experiential teachings and outdoor activities in nature as part of our Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral programs in Ministry and Divinity. The seminary also offers occasional weekend and week-long intensive seminars in the Seattle, Washington area for students in some programs.

Elder Grove Seminary strives to offer practical education in the bardic arts, in Pagan and nature-centered ministry, in sustainable living, in deep ecology, and in education for nature-centered spiritual paths.

Ordugh na Slighe Meadhanach offers a free Dedicant Path online series. This is a self-paced online course for those with little or no experience in Druidry or nature-centered spiritual paths. The work you complete with our online Dedicant Path course is good for 12 credit hours in any degree program offered by Elder Grove Seminary. The credit hours for the Dedicant Path are free, but in order to obtain credit for Dedicant Path coursework you must apply at Elder Grove Seminary and be assigned a Mentor prior to beginning the program. You will also need to pass the final exam for the Dedicant Path course to receive credit.

If you have completed a Dedicant Path program with another Order, transfer credit is considered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of Elder Grove Seminary. If transferring credit from another program, you must pass the Dedicant Path comprehensive exam to gain the full 12 hours of credit.
